Sadyang Ayoko na Talagang Mag-isip

Intro: Isa to sa mga pinapagawa sa Malikhaing Pagsulat sa Filipino 10 (MPs 10) under kay Sir Vlad. Pinasulat niya sa amin ang mga games/sports na nilalaro namin XD. Tapos pinabunot niya sa amin Inassign niya kami kung anong klaseng tula ang gagawin namin: sonnet or villanelle. Pinabunot rin niya kami ng mga concepts, e.g. utang na loob, kamatayan, pagmamahal, pagkabigo, etc. Yung topic para sa tula ay iko-connect ang game na sinulat namin sa concept na nabunot namin, tas yung tula ay isustructure sa form na naassign sa amin (e.g. sonnet ng baraha at kamatayan, villanelle ngwater polo at paglisan, villanelle ng jackstone at utang na loob, etc.). Yung sa akin naman ay soneto ng word factory at katamaran.

Mga salita ay kelangang hanapin,

Sadyang ayoko na talagang mag-isip.

 

Wala ‘kong mahanap ni isang salita,

Kalaro ko ay matagal nang sumulat,

Utak ko’y mahina, kamay ko’y makupad.

Ako’y nakatunganga, tulala, tanga.

Weird yung 3rd stanza, no? Ay naku, mahabang kwento. Basta, comment ng prof ko sa 3rd stanza, “DAYA!”

Entropy

I am a sophomore chemical engineering student and I would like to ask you this: have you heard of the word “entropy”? Does anyone have an idea what this not-so-common word is?

“Entropy” is actually a chemistry term that simply means “the measure of disorder in a system”. More disorder, higher entropy. Think of your room as a system. Your room is clean; your belongings are in their proper places. Your room has a low disorder; therefore, it has low entropy. After some time, when you don’t keep your room clean, your belongings get scattered around. Your room is disordered; therefore it has high entropy. Your room, which was orderly at first but became disordered after a while, has increased in entropy.

This is the same with systems in chemistry. For example, you have some ice cubes. They are intact, orderly solids, that’s why they have low entropy. After a while, the ice cubes melt into water. The solid ice cubes become messy water; the ice cubes system becomes more disordered. Therefore, the said system has increased in entropy.

Fortunately, you can decrease entropy. By de-cluttering your room, you are restoring order in it; thus you are decreasing the entropy of your room. By pouring the water into an ice cube mold and freezing it to become ice cubes, you restore order in the ice cubes system. You are decreasing its entropy.

It is harder to de-clutter your room than to let it just get messy. It is harder to freeze water to ice cubes than to let ice cubes melt to water. Therefore, it is harder to decrease entropy in your system than to increase it. In many systems, decreasing entropy is so difficult that it is actually impossible. For example, it is so easy to ignite a container of gasoline. That’s increasing entropy. To decrease entropy will be collecting all the fumes and heat and converting them to gasoline. Is that possible? No!

Now you know that this not-so-common chemistry term called “entropy” is applicable not only in chemistry but also in everyday life!
